A Long Island man kidnapped and strangled his ex-girlfriend, trapping her in his home until she tricked him and called police, authorities said.
Darli Mejia, 42, was hit with numerous charges at his arraignment Thursday, July 2, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.
Mejia picked up his ex-girlfriend from work on Saturday, June 20 and promised to drive her home, prosecutors said. But instead, he took her to his own place in Brentwood, according to investigators.

A moped traffic stop on Long Island spiraled out of control and led to assault charges against an 18-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, police said.
Jason Adams and Nicole Demmerele, both of Brooklyn, were stopped on the moped on Wednesday, July 1 in Inwood, the Nassau County Police Department said.
At the traffic stop, both Adams and Demmerele were “violent and combative while resisting arrest,” and Adams attempted to speed off on the moped, cops said.

A 62-year-old retired Army staff sergeant from New Jersey was shot and killed in Florida following a dispute over a parking space on Tuesday, June 30, authorities said.
